The frame of a cise is built with wood, and the roof and walls are covered with reeds or other grasses.
Inside the house there is an irori (central fireplace). Heat from the irori is retained in the earthen floor and walls, which allows the house to maintain a relatively warm temperature even in winter.

Performing "Icarpa", the ancestral memorial service

The god of fire is of great importance to the Ainu people.
In the past there was an irori in every home, and when performing rituals, prayers were first offered to the god of fire that dwelled in the irori.
The Okada cise was reconstructed as a place for the transmission of culture, and the Ainu ancestral memorial service "Icarpa" is held here once a year.
