Land that Witnessed an Ainu Battle

アイヌの戦いを見届けた土地

The summit of Kannon-yama, which overlooks Sobira-iwa and Oyako-iwa, is resplendent with the blooming of dogtooth violets and Corydalis fumariifolia in the spring.
This location also served as the stage of a fierce battle between the Tokachi Ainu and Samani Ainu, as recorded in the "Legend of Hotahumpe."

ソビラ岩や親子岩を見下ろし、春にはカタクリやエゾエンゴサクなどが咲き誇る、観音山の山頂。
ここは、「ホタフンペの伝説」のなかに残されている、十勝アイヌと様似アイヌの激しい戦いの舞台になった場所でもあります。

When under attack by the Tokachi Ainu, the Samani Ainu built a fort on Kannon-yama and fought battle here.
The location of this fort has been passed down with the name "Kamuycasi (God's Fortress)."

十勝アイヌに攻め込まれたときに、様似アイヌは観音山に砦をつくって戦いました。
この砦の跡と伝えられている場所が、「カムイチャシ（神の砦）」です。

In 1978, the Samani Ainu Association erected a monument at Kamuycasi to preserve this legend for future generations.
Every year, Ainu people hold a traditional ceremony here.

1978年、様似アイヌ協会がこの伝説を後世に残すためカムイチャシに記念碑を建立しました。
ここでは毎年、アイヌ民族が伝統的な儀式を行っています。
