A Mountain where Samani Ainu Legends Endure

様似アイヌの伝承が残る山

Deer were an important source of food for the Ainu people.
When deer could not be hunted successfully, people lit a fire at the top of the mountain and prayed.

シカはアイヌ民族にとって大切は食料源でした。
シカが獲れない時には、山頂で火を焚きお祈りをしました。

Troubled by this, the villagers held discussions, and it was decided that the men of the village would climb the mountain to perform a prayer ritual.
At the summit, the men built an altar, lit a fire, and offered their sincere prayers.

困った村びとたちは相談し合い、祈りの儀式を行うため、村の男たちが山に登ることになりました。
頂上で祭壇を組み、火をたいて、男たちは一心に祈りを捧げます。

After this, deer appeared and were plentiful in Samani, and life here became prosperous.

すると、様似にもたくさんのシカが現れ、暮らしが豊かになったそうです。

This led to the name "Apeoi" ("Place where fire is") to refer to the mountain where the prayer ceremony was held, which was later shortened to "Apoi."

このことから、祈りの儀式が行われた山を「アペオイ（火があるところ）」と呼ぶようになり、これが縮まり「アポイ」となりました。

This is how the mountain came to be called "Mount Apoi".

これが「アポイ岳」と呼ばれるようになったゆえんです。
